Rules are whatever you make them. As long as you're boxing/releasing your mons after they faint you're golden in my book. When I do randomized hacks I only won't trade if it's a mythical or legendary - also set it so legendaries don't appear. Just makes the playthrough too easy most of the time.

I remember Kanto feeling rather empty/soulless compared to Johto. I mean, don't get me wrong, having two entire regions to discover in one game was incredible, but I always felt like Kanto wasn't fully fleshed out or finished.

Never minded the solo typing. Always, ALWAYS, felt the same way about the starters. Glad someone else said it. None of them are god awful designs, but a part of the reason I rarely play gen 2 is because I don't feel drawn to use any of the starters.

If I'm not mistaken. You can get the magnet pass by talking to the girl in Saffron city. You'll need to get a pokedoll from Vermillion city and bring it back to her, then she'll give you the magnet pass.

2 years late but I feel like the Gyms in Kanto were intentionally easy as a way of showcasing your evolution as a trainer into becoming the Champion. These gyms would have been tough for you like they were for Red when he first started, but as a Master they are all childs play to you. Early Pokemon did things like that, like having Koga throw out 3 Venonats in a row each 2 levels higher than the last and then a 2 level higher Venomoth, implying it was the same Venonat over and over until it evolved. Or how Shadows Golbat and trade evolving pokemon only evolve after he realizes he has to stop being a dick, and presumably gets some friends to trade with and finally makes his Golbat happy enough.

I actually bought Herbert's Revenge first, then bought the original shortly after. My problem with Herbert's Revenge was that I couldn't connect to the internet on my DS due to "parental rules", so I had no way of getting rid of coins on EPF:HR since they removed the ability to explore the island outside of missions and the catalog features. When I got the original game and had all these features available pretty much from the get-go, I basically dropped Herbert's Revenge entirely and just played the original game instead. The only other thing I can say about it is that I got an EPF Phone-styled DS case along with EPF:HR. I don't have it with me anymore, but how cool is that?

The first time i played gold in 2000 as a 7 yeat old i beat the entire game with just a ferret. Quick attack rollout swift and the last move i cant remember what. It involved many many scum saves rollouts hyper potions and revives

I have to play a Let's Go game, but I feel the age makes the game more novel than later entries. Besides plot & characters, what really separates later games from each other? Here, the single special stat is a novelty, Cloyster is useable, and the bugs don't actively destroy the experience.

The developer of this game, Artoon, was found by Sonic co-creator Naoto Ohshima. Though Artoon went defunct later in 2010, they were quickly resurrected as Arzest. Arzest recently put out Sonic Superstars.

I'm surprised that you didn't figure out how to use the Magnet Train! And Blue deleveled his team like most others. I think the biggest problem you had was overleveling and level-grinding before the Elite 4 and then rushing through Kanto thinking it was too easy. The game is balanced around you entering Kanto with a top level around 40. And as you said later in the video, the end of the game is balanced around being around 50-65, just like in Gen I. There were actually several events in Gen I - and Mew was readily available in events outside of Japan. But it was done through trades or cartridge inserts. The other events featured Surfing and Flying Pikachu, a special University Magikarp only in Japan. Correct re: Celebi event was adding to the 3DS VC version. Probably should have been playing legally, dude. Regarding Suikun, it's too bad you used the Master Ball on Snorlax. It's best used on Entei or Raikou, whichever you find first. Also, while they were originally designed as Dogs in 1997, they were changed to felines in the 1998-1999 redesign. The endless arguments are why we call them Legendary Beasts. I remember constantly replaying this after the timer ran out, each time trying something just for it all to disappear. I built a ship house, lived on top of the mountain, in the snow beyond the PC Gamer logo, in a tree, or even ventured far off into ocean from spawn to just get lost among the interesting islands out there. But in the end that little pond spot (3:29) was always my favorite place to carve out a home because it was my first pick, and its so tranquil. Thanks for bringing back these memories!!
